Thanumalayaswami Temple, Suchindrum, Kanyakumari

Thanumalayaswami Temple is also called as Suchindram Temple “Thanumalayan” the name means Thanu – Shiv, Mal – Vishu & ayan – brahma. This is a 1300 year old temple; it is believed to be located on the places where Indiran got purified the name Suchi means Purify.

As per a mythical story once Tridev i.e brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh Visited sag Atri Ashram, during the absents of the sag but his wife Anushya was there, to test her the tridev went as a shannyashi asking her to offer something to eat but the put the condition that a person how is wearing cloths cannot feed them,

Aushya accepted to feed them as per their condition and turn the tridev in to small babies and feed them after the tridevies visited the ashram and find their husbands as small babies they requested to anushya to get the babies back in form and she did so. The deities’ remained as a Swaymbhulinga which was sprouted under the Amaltas tree, till the date the tree is there but it is decoying and hollowed but the tree has been protected by metallic plates. If you visit Suchindram Temple one of the tourist place to visit in Kanyakumari you can see inside the konnaiyadi nathar temple, a Small temple consterct around the tree and Three swanmbhulinga (brahma, Vishnu and Shiva). Suchindram Temple is also lited in one of the few brahma temples in India.

Inside the temple a statue of 18 feet Vishwarupa Hanuman also presents. Special poojas and artis are done on auspicious days and also on Saturday. In this temple the navagraha are places on the shelter instead of ground.
